im waiting for rima the jungle girl, apache chief, el dorado and samurai, black vulcan, hopefully, it will also be made by alex ross and with same scale as the justice figures he made
i was very fortunate to purchase these figures. i had to get a fast pass for friday at the comic-con. when i went in line at the mattel booth, a sticker saying sold out was attached to the picture and i was about to leave. it’s a good thing i didn’t, because while i was in line they removed the sticker because they had more available.
This “more available” quantity you’re refering to brings up a very interesting question. Recently Matty revealed that they somehow realized that they had buried a case of 100 Gleeks in the back unknowingly after telling everyone they we’re sold out. Suddenly, according to them, they had no Wonder Twins to sell with these magically appearing extra Gleeks. 6 wound up as give-aways to Fwoosh members, where the rest went is anybodys guess. Ebay perhaps?
My question is what could they have been buried under if nearly everything they brought to the Con sold out in a couple days? And where are the other 94 Gleeks that couldn’t be paired up to Twins?
Odd indeed….
the fwoosh got a lot more than 6 gleeks.
i think they got the majority of that last box of 100.
Its just been announced the set will be 40 bucks. A little to steep for what basically is the Two Stooges. If they gave me the monkey to, I’d think about it.
That is really something. Very inspired.
But, when I was a kid, watching Superfriends, my buds and I HATED those two. We weren’t crazy about Firestar in Spiderman, either.
We wanted the REAL heros, and we didn’t want them upstaged by dorky, made-for-TV newcomers.
When I was younger (and I mean like since I was three) I wanted the most serious and adult versions of my hereos. I wanted realistic sculpts on my action figures.
Yet, the design trend over the years has been to “kid-ize” everything: Mighty Muggs, goofy junior super-assistants like the Wonder Twins, Superhero Squad, etc.
I dunno – am I that out of step with what the rest of fandom wants? Because it seems like an awful lot of that stuff is sitting unpurchased on shelves at Toys R Us, Target, etc.
Heck, being loaded up with that junk sunk Kay Bee.
I’m sure the Wonder Twins will sell out and I’ll see the on eBay for $95 a set before long. But would the manufacturers across the board (not just Mattel) pay a little more attention to fandom’s darlings like Swamp Thing, the Teen Titans, the Doom Patrol, etc.?
The very fact they chose the Wonder Twins indicates Mattel knows the average age and interests of their DC Universe Classics fans, so they shouldn’t be surprised that fans are ticked-off that Robotman or Changeling are going to be Walmart exclusives and impossible to find.
Yet, they continue to make these poor decisions that only antagonise fandom.
i also wanted my action figures to be almost life like, just like you, hence, my superheroes collection are those made by alex ross, the justice series and on the the side of the fence, if i may, the marvel select, which is of the same scale with their dc counterparts, both dc and marvel were great memories of my childhood….the best dc superhero line, justice by alex ross, i have all the hero figures, from series 1 to 8
The Monkey is only avaiable AT Comic Con IN San Diego. It sucks. But I still need that. I hope it’s only like 25 like Lobo was last year.
Unfortunately John, this set without Gleek is $40. Gleek is the “free”, “thanks for waiting in line for hours” gift for those with either scalper dollar signs in their eyes or an awful lot of nostalgia for Super Friends. I suspect he might also be an employee handout ala “Holiday Hal”.
Welcome to toy collecting for the elite!
Talk about inflation! Yikes!
***** ASOME,BUT WHERES THE MONKEY! NO MONKEY,NO MONEY!
That is very nice. But then I would expect a $15 package to be that nice. Almost seems like a long way to go for the Wonder Twins.
Again, WHERE IS THE MONKEY!? NO MONKEY NO SALE!
