Info on Mattel’s DCUC Comic Con figure…

Mattel’s ToyGuru drops in on the AFI forums to post a message regarding the DCUC Comic Con figure:

“I can’t reveal any more info at this time, but I can tell fans that our DCUC Comic Con figure is going to set the new standard for Comic Con exclusives. Not only is it an all new figure, but it will be a huge surprise and will raise the bar forever. While it does share some parts, 80% of the figures in the DCU line share some parts like legs and torsos.

We’ll be revealing all of our 2008 San Diego Exclusives in April at NY Comic Con. The NY Comic Con repaint exclusive will be revealed in the next issue of Toy Fare.”

This was in addition to what was posted at AFTimes’ latest round of Mattel Q&A (scroll down past the Blue Superman write-up).

It would be fantastic if it was a LEGIONAIRE!

  • Nelson Wu says:

Hoping for a classic Amazo,Captain Atom,Legion of Superheroes.

    CtoC Doomsday, Colossal Boy

  • LtKnight88 says:

Sounds to me like it has to be an oversized figure. And maybe an alien. Not Batman or Superman families.

    Anti-monitor?
    Giganta?
    Kilowog?

We’ve already got Nightwing, Robin, Cyborg, Supergirl, who have all been Titans. So maybe a Giant Trigon figure to go with his return to the comics?

    LTKnight

  • Silver Searcher says:

If we’re just guessing which character will be the exclusive, my vote is for the GL Kilowog. With the right sculpt and plenty of articulation he could end up being a huge step-up for actions figures!

  • James Collins says:

yeah, and is there pics of these hal, dont leave us in the dark now.

  • Andrew says:

Hal, is this insider information? How do you now this?

  • Hal-Jordan says:

Wonder Woman is the headliner for wave 4.

  • electri says:

Or maybe its an exclusive whole wave

  • Hal-Jordan says:

The big gun for wave 4 will be shown at Toyfare next week, the rest will be unveiled at NYCC.

  • Rafa-El says:

Since the exclusive is an alien (from atf interview)… could it be a Legionnaire (Chameleon Boy, Brainiac 5, Ultra Boy etc…)? A GL Corps Member (Abin Sur, Tomar Re, Katma Tui etc…)?

Since Mattel is saying, “it will be a huge surprise and will raise the bar forever”… What if the exclusive is a C&C figure all to itself?

  • Greg L says:

I hope this exclusive figure really does raise the bar and isn’t a big let down. It’s hard to guess who it might be.

I’m really looking forward to waves 2 and 3. The figures look great. I’m a little surprised by the red and blue superman figures. Does anyone know when 4 and 5 will be announced?

  • Juan Manuel says:

    Please, Batman Beyond figure!!!!

  • James Collins says:

What they will probably do is make a character that is not in circulation nor our minds, if you think about it, and when they say that is will “Not only is it an all new figure, but it will be a huge surprise and will raise the bar forever” so it means to say that maybe it is someone dead, or possibly an omac considering that all the plastic will be clear and stuff, maybe with a person inside of it, but i am deafeningly wanting it regardless of who it is, considering that these are the marvel legends of dc, what ever it is, keep the list long and give me more.

  • Jon Z says:

I’m afraid I have to agree with Greg – I’m weary of tracking down these exclusives/limited variants. Paying more for a ten dollar toy, praying you can order it before it sells out and hoping your “investment” isn’t crushed in the posts isn’t “fun”. I don’t get any kick from having something no one elese has – or can afford!

  • Andrew says:

According to other remarks by Toy Guru (posted at AFI and elsewhere), Wonder Woman and Flash are A-List characters, and would be used by Mattel with one of their personal enemies like Cheetah or Captain Boomerang (my own examples) to “anchor” a future Wave.

The Exclusive has got to be a B- or C-List character from the pages of Superman, Aquaman or Green Lantern. I exclude Batman for two reasons: (a) the urban world of Batman doesn’t often feature aliens, and (b) we’re told that Mattel wants to explore more of the DCU, which means a long holiday away from Gotham City (and perhaps even from Metropolis).

It could also be a character related to an A-List hero from Waves 4 or 5, which would give us a clue as to what to expect later this year. Yet it probably wouldn’t be a character that would make too big of a splash with parents and kids in the mainstream retail environment. It’s got to be something for hardcore fans and collectors.

I watch what’s going on in Mattel’s other DC toy lines to get a sense of who’s on their minds. For example, we learned at Toy Fair 2007 that the Four Horsemen sculpted Green Lantern and Penguin as Fighting Figures. Now they are in the DCUC. They also did Martian Manhunter and Green Arrow as FF. So, we should expect to see them shortly as DCUC.

Aquaman appeared in the Super Friends line. So John Stewart and the Flash should be coming up in the DCUC.

I also notice that Mattel takes cues from current DC Comics and DC-related DVD releases. Examples: the original Firestorm appears in the recent Super Powers Team DVDs, and the new Firestorm was just recruited to JLA in the comics. Based on these observations, Cyborg, Vixen, Red Arrow and Black Lightening may be imminent.

Note that the DCUC Sinestro variant is from Sinestro Corps and the new DCUC Robin sports his new uniform. This is very current at DC Comics.

What’s next? The DVD Movie New Frontier and DC Comics Final Crisis. With this in mind, I wouldn’t be surprised to see DCUC go with Blackhawk, Dr Fate, Pied Pier, Trickster, Donna Troy, Mary Marvel, Atom, Kyle Raynor, more New Gods, and if we’re very lucky, Jason Todd as Red Robin.

If they do any big gun heroes as the exclusive I lose my trust in mattel

  • SilverSuperman says:

yeah i hope they don’t do that, it will probably be like wonder woman, flash or something.

  • Andrew says:

Take it easy, buddy. You can always purchase a Con Exclusive on the web. You just have to pay a little more. Always works for me!

  • Greg says:

This could royally suck if it’s a cool character that a lot of people will want and they don’t do a version in the main line.
