MattyCollector.com Extends Deadline for DC Club Subscription

Here’s an update from Matty regarding the Club Infinite Earths subscription…

Toy Fans,

At press time the DC Universe Club Infinite Earths sign-ups are at 29%. We’re still 71% away from the level of subscribers needed to move forward but we really want to see this club happen, so we’re extending the sale one more week. And what’s good for one is good for all, so now you’ve got until Sunday August 14th at 11:59 p.m. PT to order any of our 2012 subscriptions!

DC Universe Club Infinite Earths
True collector 6″ characters like Poison Ivy, Atrocitus, The Flash 1 and Starman, oversized figures and fan’s choice for the club-exclusive!

Ghostbusters™ Club Ecto-1
We’re showing ’em how it’s done downtown with old favorites and someone you’ve been waiting for. (cough *Dana* cough)

Masters of the Universe® Club Eternia®
The Most Powerful Club in the Universe!™ celebrates the 30 year anniversary of MOTUC with Sorceress®, Kobra Kahn™ and more.

Voltron® Club Lion Force
Get 5 Lions that make a 23″ tall Voltron, 5 Pilots with pieces to make an Ultra Blazing Sword, plus a club-exclusive Sven!

One item to update everyone on is that we are limiting production quantities in 2012. For Masters of the Universe, this means that we’ll be producing slightly fewer figures beyond the subscriptions than in past years. For the other brands, there will be limited production beyond the subscription. So if you want to be guaranteed to get your favorite figures from any of the clubs, we highly recommend signing up for the annual subscription (and remember – it’s the only way to get the exclusive club items!). There will still be limited stock available on sale days, but overall it will be less than previous years.

Again, we want to make sure that everyone who wants a subscription has a chance to get one so the sale end date has been extended to August 14th at 11:59 p.m. PT. And remember, all subscriptions ordered together will ship together, in any combination and quantity. But don’t wait… subscriptions really are available for a limited time only so place your order today!

—Matty

I don’t think they said Poison Ivy would never be made if the Club does not reach goal; they seem to be saying their retail line up for 2012 is set, and the only way the figures they plan for Club Infinite Earths to be made for 2012 is if they are made for the subscription service.

I subscribed and hope the club happens, but it looks bleak. I would order another to help get them to goal, but it would have to be shipped separately because it would now be an additional order, and I’m not paying for double shipping.

With the penchant Mattel has shown for producing golden age figures which hold no interest for me personally, the elimination of collect & connect pieces may well end my need to be a completest. Since the subscription means I will be buying a figure whether I want that character or not, I worry that I may get stuck with a year’s worth of figures that without a collect & connect component I may only have purchased half or less at retail. If they want to guarantee subscribers they should announce the entire club 2012 lineup.

Or here’s a revolutionary idea. rather than doing subscriptions, they should do pre-orders. That would allow them to manufacture individual items on case by case basis and if the pre-orders prove too low, they can scrap the production. They would need to work further in advance, and yes the model would be fraught with it’s own issues, but the locking in our dollars for items we may not even want in today’s economy is a tough sell.

I’m sure they will find that the additional subscription services will cut into their existing lines. I had three MOTU subscriptions this year and dropped to one for 2012 to accommodate Voltron and DCU. If DCU doesn’t happen, I won’t know until it’s too late to order an additional MOTU, and even if I had the time, now I would have to pay for separate shipping.

If I had known that Club Infinite Earths might not happen I would have waited until the very end to subscribe to what will actually be made in one order. Maybe that’s what smarter individuals are doing.

I knew this wouldn’t work out. If they’ve only gotten that much since comic-con, I doubt they’ll get 71% by 9 days from now. Maybe if this fails they’ll just release collector exclusives in stores like they should! I like how they’re blackmailing the fans by saying that if they don’t get enough subscriptions, they’ll never make Poison Ivy…

If you guys want my money you’re going to have to either lower the price of the figures or do something about that shipping cost. There’s no reason I should pay $26 per figure when I’ve been buying the same repainted figures for less at retail for years. I love Mattel and I love DCUC, but that price is past my breaking point.
