New Batch of DCUC 2-packs
Earlier today, ActionFigureInsider.com posted a news bit about 4 new sets of 2-packs to be released by Mattel next year. The line-up include:
- Batman Vs. Clayface
- Superman Vs. Classic Brainiac
- Lex Luthor Vs. Supergirl
- Golden Age Hawkman & Golden Age Hawkgirl
Here’s the official word from Mattel’s Toy Guru about these upcoming 2-packs.
Hey toy fans,
So here is the deal with the new DCUC 2 packs and new IH Mallah’s Revenge 6 packs that has shown up on some internet sites.
These are currently “proposed” packs which we would very much like to get to. What are the factors holding them up you say? Well fan interest that is what!
To generate this, we have offered these packs to online retailers in hopes of generating enough pre-sales and support going into production. If we do recieve that and can hit the minimum order quantity we need to go into production, these packs will roll out throughout 2009. Here is the skinny:
Batman vs Clayface
Batman will be in his black and gray costume with “mud splatter” effects. Clayface will be an exact reissue of this hard to find figure.
Superman vs Brianiac
This is proposed as a standard Superman figure (Eradicator head on the Wave 6 Superman body with red heat vision eyes) vs. Classic Brainiac (green head) with an all new head and coller piece. Brainic will come armed with Luthor’s gun from the 2007 figure.
Supergirl vs. Luthor
This will be a reissue of the Blue outfit Kara Supergirl and the power suit Lex, but perhapes with a little surprise in the accessories!
Golden Age Hawk Pack
Two new figures to start your golden age collection.
So again, all of these packs are pending fan interest. Because they are not being carried (at this time) by any of the large box stores, we need to generate a minimum order before we can turn on the green light and go into production.
And while many may ask “why not sell these on MattyCollector.com?”, well, that is because we have other more intensive packs with more obscure characters from the DC universe planned for the Matty.com offerings which are already going forward – check out the new issue of Toy Fare for a sneak peak at Alex Luthor and Ultraman. These 4 packs are meant to get harded to find figures back in collectors hands. (vs the Matty packs are all news characters in each pack).
If these packs do not get produced, we will try to work these characters back into the line down the road. But for now, the best way to show support for these packs is to place pre orders with your favorite online retailer today!
Also, look for a surprise reveal on MattyCollector.com right after Xmas this year!

I’m sorry but with the bad track record of QC on this line, there’s just no way I’d feel comfortable ordering any figures sight unseen…
I’d be interested but not for twenty five bucks!!! And with the economy the way it is I can’t afford to put up a hundred bucks on repainted figures that I can’t trust a release date on, and that will probably break seconds after removing them from the package.
I never got the Supergirl or the Lex Luthor, so that’s the first two-pack that I actually want both figures in. With the Toys-R-Us exclusive two-packs (which I still haven’t found) I’ll have to buy another Mongul to get Cyborg Superman, another Batgirl to get Azrael, another Orion to get Lightray and a another Hal Jordan to get Abin Sur. At least I already have Clayface and won’t need to buy the muddy Batman. And I’m not deciding on the Brainiac until I see a picture of him. I agree about the muddy batman being pointless. If they really want to do a battle damaged variant, I would like to see a Superman figure that looks just like he did when he threw that last punch against Doomsday, bloodied, bruised, his whole shirt torn off, not just a few tears in his tights and some dirt. Show me something significant. And if Mattel was really smart (and I think we’ll all agree that they aren’t doing much to prove that they are with this horrendous distribution) they would shuffle these two-packs around. Why not a Lightray and Abin Sur for those of us who were loyal to the line and already bought Orion and Hal Jordan and aren’t satisfied with a removable helmet and a slightly different costume as an insentive to buy a second copy? Or for those of us who really wanted the Collect and Connect piece that came with the originals. I would gladly snatch up Azrael and Cyborg Superman without a second thought. And if they plan to continue re-releasing DC Superhero figures in two-packs, they might want to let people know what figures they are and aren’t releasing so we know what to look for on E-bay. I still need Two-Face, Darkseid, Killer Croc and Clark Kent. If I give up and buy one of them, that’s one more two-pack they can’t sell to me. Although I would gladly forget the old Clark Kent figure whether I had him or not if they made one that actually possessed the same dimensions as the Superman figures. Maybe even packed with a matching Bruce Wayne. But I’m sure there’s no chance of that.
agreed 100%. i’ll pass on clayface/batman unless it’s a clean version of batman, and i need to see photos before i order anything.
More exclusives hard to find figures… What a happiness… :/
I don’t see how both Hawks in a two pack would cost out? It’s a great and logical idea, but those wings alone for each is going to seriously take up some space.
This and the classic Brainiac set sound the best to me. Who would have thought the worst villain costume of all time would ever be made into a figure….but I love it!
“Spatter” Batman will inevitably be known as “Poop” Batman and seriously, what toyline would want the reputation?
I may have missed it, but are these going to be exclusive to Toys r Us again, or will they enjoy a wider release?
I have to say thank you for doing this but I have to agree with Vincent on the mud-spaltter on Batman. Please no mud-spaltter.
As a father who is buying this line for his 5 year old son to actually play with: as long as the figures are well made (DURABLE), accurate to their comic book counterpart and come with decent (i.e. FUN) accessories, I will continue to support this line. Have not seen the “spatter” Batman yet, but I would say that we’d rather just have a great looking and/or perhaps different sculpt of the Dark Knight. Perhaps a battle damaged costume or a black costumed Batman from the 90′s. Would it really kill you guys to include a comic book with the 22 dollar 2-packs? You’d really be doing yourself a HUGE favor in the long run with a colorful reprint of the character’s origin story or just a reprint of a classic story featuring that character in that costume. Maybe we can send in UPC’s for a nice TPB featuring some classic tales???? We love the toys, just wish it was easier to find them. Thankfully Meijer’s has had almost all of the first and third series…
Cheers,
-Del
Mattel seems to be unable to consistently get their products to the retailers as it is. Its ridiculous to send out feelers for more of the same. HANDLE THE PROBLEM YOU ALREADY HAVE FIRST. And, whether its an issue at Mattel or at the retailers, make SOME kind of public you’re at least aware of the issue.
Well, these actually seem pretty interesting, and it’ll be a good way to get our hands on older figures that were once impossible to find. I have Lex, but I would really like that Supergirl figure, so I may find something to do with another Lex (ie. use it for a custom). The otehrs sounds interesting, but still, I’d like to see some pictures before I really make up my mind.
The only pic that has surfaced as of today is of the Clayface/Batman pack. Honestly, and I’m certain I speak for, well, EVERYBODY, the Batman figure would look better WITHOUT the mud-splatter effect. That figure, for me at least, is a deal breaker, and I’d be more inclined to buy Clayface loose at that price than have a Batman figure I don’t want; lose the mud-splatter effect and I’ll be happy.
